Exports have been an engine of economic growth in Indonesia. However, it has been in a steady decline due to lower commodity prices and dwindling global demand.
Major exports are: oil and gas (12.4 % of the total exports, of those gas 6.9 %, crude oil 4.3 % and oil products 1.2 %); animal and vegetable fats and oils (14 %); and electrical equipment and machinery (10.45 %). Other exports include: footwear, part of such articles (3.4 %); garments not knitted (3 %) and ores, slag and ash (2.5 %) etc.
Major export partners are: the United States (11.6 %), China (10 % of the total exports), Japan (9.9 %), India (8.8 %) and Singapore (7 %). Yearly exports of $150 billion, Indonesia is currently ranked the 24th largest export economy in the world.
